What is a Sensory Bottle? & Why are they so important?

Hi, this is Brownie. I write the blog for Cosmic Calmers and The Learning Star. I am a weighted stuffed bear that loves to share the most important information. This blog is about Sensory Bottles. Everyone always asks us these two important questions. What is a Sensory Bottle? & Why are they so important? Well here are the answers you have been searching for.

Ever wished you could take a trip into the Milky Way to be surrounded by twinkling stars and glowing orbs of light. Maybe float along the edges of the northern lights or sleep on the floor of a magical snow globe watching every single snowflake fall.

On the other hand, maybe you like hearing the shake rattle and roll of marbles falling on the floor or the jingle bells jangling up and down. Did you ever stop to listen to all the different sounds that a maraca can make as the inside swishes around the wooden shape?

These are all visual and auditory stimulants. Some of our special stars find these kinds of sights and sounds completely fascinating. It was once printed somewhere on the internet “special needs kids pick up on what others miss and miss what others pick up.”

Having the right sensory bottle can take chaotic moments and bring them to a more manageable level. My star (my boy with Severe Autism) loves the glittered sensory bottles when he is upset. He loves to watch the magical little specs of glitter reflect the light in all different ways. The way the glitter rolls up and down, side to side. The wave-like symphony inside the bottle creates a very calming environment for your star to start calming down. It’s a great way of starting healthy coping skills.

He also loves the rattle bottles. These bottles make all different kinds of sounds. They are filled with different colors, shapes, beads, sequins pieces, and especially things that make sounds and are ready to shake rattle, and roll all over the floor clinking and clacking along the way.

There are tons of different ways sensory bottles can help your star during play or in a therapy session.

As your star gets older they can use the sensory bottle for Find and Seek. This is a game where they have to find the hidden objects located in the sensory bottle.

These bottles come in all different colors and can be paired with many other techniques to help your star find peace in the most un-manageable times. The liquid in our sensory bottles is water and Elmer's glue. The lids are fastened with silicone to make a watertight seal. They are tough and can take a beating but they are not indestructible so please make sure you are always with your star playing with these types of sensory toys.

However, these are toys so make it fun, use easy words and actions for mimicking, and maybe just maybe your star will show you a thing or two!!
